Covington Catholic believes that our community service requirements instill a lifelong sense of responsibility in our students to be active in their communities and to take care of others that are in need of help. The individual’s service requirement is 60 hours of true service over 4 years (15 hours per year); however, our students far surpass what is required by consistently performing over 130 hours of volunteer work in their CCH career—more than 2x what is required!
Seniors must have 60 hours of service in order to receive their diploma and have their transcripts released.
Students have the opportunity to earn a Varsity Letter by completing 40 hours of service in 1 academic year and by participating in at least 6 different activities in that year. The service year runs from June 1 thru May 31. All opportunities are posted on the service web site, and all hours must be submitted on through the web site within 30 days of having completed the service.
We are proud to offer 2 annual awards to students who best demonstrate the spirit of community service:
- THE SPIRIT OF COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD WILL BE GIVEN TO THE STUDENT WHO BEST DISPLAYS THE TRUE SPIRIT OF SERVICE TO OTHERS IN ANY GIVEN YEAR WHILE ENROLLED AT CCH;
- THE CHAMINADE AWARD WILL BE GIVEN TO THE SENIOR WHO BEST DEMONSTRATES A COMMITMENT OF SERVICE AND DIGNITY FOR ALL DURING HIS YEARS AT COVCATH.
Our Community Service Program is administered by Mr. Stephen Snyder.
