School Board Info

The Covington Catholic Board of Education is consultative to the principal and pastoral administrator. It is organized as a policy recommending body and represents the district parishes in the planning, operation and maintenance of the school. It is subject to the regulations proceeding from the Diocesan Board of Education as approved by the Bishop of Covington.

Meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month in the School's Board Room. All Board meetings are open meetings, although anyone wishing to speak or make a presentation to the Board must notify the principal or president in advance of the agenda-setting meeting of the Executive Committee. The Board is authorized to conduct executive sessions at the discretion of the president and Executive Committee at which time only members, ex-officio members, and other such persons as authorized by the Board may attend.

Membership Info

Eligibility

A lay representative should be a parent of a student in attendance at CCH or an alumnus of the school.

The Board consists of two representatives each from the district parishes of Blessed Sacrament, St. Agnes, St. Joseph (Crescent Springs), and St. Pius X. One representative from Mother of God parish will represent the parishes of St. John, Sts. Boniface & James, and St. Ann. Two additional At-Large members can be added if deemed necessary.

In addition, two members shall be appointed to represent the segment of the CCH community not represented by the district parishes.

The principal and pastoral administrator of the school shall serve as the administrative officers of the board and shall be responsible for approving and carrying out its recommended policies. Both will be ex-officio, non-voting members of the Board. The principal is also responsible administratively to the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools.

Other ex-officio members of the Board will consist of: the current presidents of the Parent's Club and the Boosters Association, a faculty representative elected annually by the faculty, the Development Director and any other locally determined members as appointed by the Board.

Term

Each lay representative shall serve a term of three years unless waived by the Board. Only two consecutive terms may be served. Past members may be re-appointed after an interval of one year.

New members and officers will assume their duties on July 1 and all terms end on June 30.

Board Vacancies

Vacancies on the Board shall be filled in a timely manner and the new member shall complete the unexpired term. The new member will be selected by the following process:

  • The Board president should contact and inform the pastor of the applicable parish of the upcoming vacancy in order that he can publish this notification in the parish bulletin. All potential applicants must contact a member of the Executive Committee in order to receive the appropriate application forms.
  • The Executive Committee will review all the applications and select the candidate(s) to be presented to the entire Board for approval at the next meeting. If approved, the candidate(s) will be notified by the president and his/her term will begin immediately.

Purpose

Covington Catholic High School and its consultative board exist as part of the pastoral ministry of the participating parishes within the Diocese of Covington. As such, the school is subject to the authority of the Bishop of Covington in his own person and acting through the Diocesan Superintendent of Schools, as well as following applicable civil regulation. All actions of the board are subject to the approval and ratification of the principal and pastoral administrator, and must be in compliance with Diocesan Board of Education policy.

Specific Duties & Functions

The Board is responsible to advise the principal and pastoral administrator concerning:

  1. All aspects of the formal educational program of the school
  2. The development and approval of an annual budget; securing adherence to the budget and establishing tuition charges
  3. A better understanding and wider support of Catholic education within the local community
  4. Implementing policies of the Diocesan Board of Education and, in matters wherein the Diocesan Board has not promulgated policies, recommending such policies under which the administration shall operate
  5. Serving as a local committee for short-term and long range planning
  6. Assisting in the selection and retention of the school principal
  7. Providing continuing and effective leadership for the school
  8. Evaluating the effectiveness of board policy in achieving its goals and objectives
  9. Establishing committees on a standing and ad hoc basis according to need

Standing Committees

Each member will be appointed to serve on at least one standing committee of the Board. Each committee shall select its own chairperson who must be a voting member of the Board. Standing committee terms shall expire at the last meeting of the Board year.

Every Committee Chair is empowered to include at large members of the community to serve on that committee.
