ARTS at CCH
What has become evident this Concert Season is the fact that CCH and NDA have some great people and programs in place in the area of the performing arts! If you are a student interested in a variety of performing opportunities, I can't think of a better situation in Northern Kentucky than our NDA and CCH performing arts combination.
- Mr. Greg Cerimele
The Chamber Choir is an advanced choir consisting of 20 students who are selected from auditions and faculty recommendation. Music ranges from Sacred to secular, a cappella, and TTBB (4 part harmony for men). The Chamber Choir provides music for school and Diocesan liturgies as well as other special events throughout the school year. Some after school and evening rehearsals and/or performances are required.
Auditions are held in the 4th quarter of the year for inclusion in the following school year.
NEW RELEASE 2017 - "Home for the Holidays! Order below.
"I'll Be Home"
The Chamber Choir released this CD in the fall of 2015 and sold them at Joseph-Beth Booksellers, via ITunes, and online/at school. They presented a check for $8500 to the Brighton Center from proceeds of the CD. Here is a music video produced by CCH Journalism students with the song, "I Heard the Bells" from the CD.
"To Where You Are"
A few years ago, the Chamber Choir recorded a CD to honor Maria Schaffstein, a student at Notre Dame Academy who was killed in an automobile accident in April 2010. Funds from the sale of the $10 CD benefit the Maria Schaffstein Fund at NDA. CDs are available for purchase at the Cov Cath Spirit Shop.

The art studio at Covington Catholic is filled with the creative energy of our students, whether it's in printmaking, painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, or more. Many CCH graduates have gone on to study Art in college and pursued careers based on their positive experience in Mr. Hader's Art Classes.
The Fine Arts Department at Covington Catholic High School opens its doors to all students regardless of previous experience or skill. It is the goal of the department to teach the student vital life skills along with outstanding subject instruction.
The process of art can be learned by all willing to put the time, effort and dedication necessary. Success is achieved by a sequence of assignments which teach students the basics of art making.
The foundation classes focus on composition, design, drawing, color theory and communicating ideas visually. Advanced students have the opportunity to express their understanding of the world through painting, drawing, mixed media, sculpture (assemblage and found object) and printmaking. Art history is used in coordination with art making to allow students reference and understanding.
Visual art students have the opportunity to use their talents to compete in local event and competitions, college/university scholarship and the prestigious Kentucky’s Governor’s School for the Arts. CCH has a tremendous history in all competitions. CCH is proud of the many students who have used their talents to become painters, sculptors, designers, architects, teachers and professors.
The department’s main goal, or scope, is to encourage thinkers, to develop young men who can see possibilities rather than defeat, who become problem solvers despite difficult tasks, who see possibilities where others see problems. It is the hope of the department to encourage students to be more awake and aware of all that life, through a loving God, has brought them.
Understanding this concept has allowed many graduates who have had a significant fine arts background to excel in so many fields besides art. From engineers to doctors, the department strives to awaken a world of wonder and thoughtfulness.
Mr. Tim Haders, Art instructor and Department Chair, has been chosen "Teacher of the Year" numerous times and has shown his own art in local galleries.
Artists Reaching Classrooms
The Art Department at Covington Catholic is a proud participant in the Artists Reaching Classrooms (ARC) program. ARC is the proud recipient of the 2009 Scripps-Corbett Special Award for Art Education.
ARC, a program of the Taft Museum of Art in partnership with the Pendleton Art Center, offers these experiences to high school students with a significant interest in art:
- Interaction with professional artists
- Visits to artists’ studios
- Examination of the relationship among artists, art, and society
- Assessment of their own art in light of working artists’ methods and techniques
- Exploration of the Taft Museum of Art as a resource for artists
- Participation in a professionally organized art exhibition

Covington Catholic and Notre Dame Academy co-produce 6-8 theatrical productions throughout the school year. Our young men have many opportunities to participate in these shows through acting, production staff, set design, lighting, and music. We are fortunate that our students are able to perform in the 400-seat Performing Arts Center at Notre Dame Academy.
