Brett Dietz

Brett graduated from CCH in 2000. He was a varsity three-sport star in Football (QB),
Basketball and Baseball (3B/1B/Pitcher). In football,
he was a member of the 1997 state championship team as a sophomore. In his senior year, he was a NKY Coaches All-Star. In basketball, he was a member of the regional runner-up team in 1999 and
was a “defensive specialist” for Coach Tieman. He was a member of the 2000 baseball regional championship team and was named to the All-State team. After graduating from CCH, Brett attended Hanover College where he lettered in four sports: football, basketball, baseball & golf. He won three HCAC conference championships in football and one in basketball. He was named Hanover College’s Most Outstanding Athlete in 2003-2004, Male Athlete of the Decade for 2000-2009 and inducted into their Athletic Hall of Fame in 2014. After college, Brett began his professional football career in Europe playing for the Turku Trojans (Finland) in 2004. In 2005, he came home to play for the Cincinnati Marshalls. He played for the Louisville Fire in 2006 where he set a league record of 12 passing
touchdowns in a single game and was named Rookie of the Year. In 2007, he rose to the top level of Arena Football and played for the Tampa Bay Storm, winning the Rookie of the Year Award. Brett played
in Tampa through 2010 where he was named 2nd team All-AFL, won an
American Conference Championship and played in the 2010 Arena Bowl.
In 2010, Brett began his college football coaching career at DePauw University in Greencastle, IN, where he coached three different positions as an assistant coach. He was proudly named the head coach at DePauw University on January 2nd. Brett is married to his wife, Dana, and they
have two sons, Brayden (8) and Hudson (4) and their daughter, Hadlee, born January 10th, is 5 days old today.

Fred Hellmann

Fred graduated from CCH in 1962. He was an outstanding swimmer and was a member of the 1962 state championship team, the first in any sport in school history. That year, Fred won two races at the state championships and became the first individual state champion in CCH history. He won the 100-yard backstroke with a state record time that stood for two years, and he was also a member of the 200-yard medley relay that finished first. After graduating from CCH, Fred
attended the Ohio College of Applied Science before transferring to the
University of Kentucky, where he joined the swim team. He majored in
business administration and fine arts. In the fall of 1965, Fred joined the US Marine Corps and was sent in 1966 to Vietnam as a squad leader for 81 millimeter mortars in an infantry unit for the 2nd Battalion 3rd Marines.
He was honorably discharged in February of 1969 with a rank of Staff
Sergeant. Upon his return home, Fred loved playing ice hockey and he created the Greater Cincinnati Amateur Hockey League, which played games at the Cincinnati Gardens. Fred continued taking business classes in office and sales management at Thomas More College. His entire
working career in retails sales was at the capacity of manager, supervisor
or floor salesman in home furnishing and electronic sales. He was employed at McAlpin’s, Sears, Elder-Beerman, Rhodes Furniture and Furniture Fair. He retired in 2009 and he lives with his wife, Linda, in Harrison, Ohio. He and Linda have three children and six grand-children. His interests are fishing, golf, free-lance photography and vacationing to every state in America.

Marc Janson

Marc graduated from CCH in 1993. He played soccer for all four years and was a three-year varsity starter (’90, ’91, ’92). In his sophomore year (‘90), the Colonels made the regional finals. In both his
junior and senior years (’91, ’92), Marc led the Colonels to the District, Regional and Sectional Championships and was named 1st team All-Region. In his senior year (’92), Marc had an incredible season and won several
additional awards including CCH Most Valuable Player, 1st team All-State, All-Midwest Region Team and Puma High School All-American. Marc is also a two-time winner of the Mike Durrett Award for most assists.
After graduating from CCH, Marc attended Xavier University for one year and played Soccer before transferring to Thomas More College, where he played Soccer for three additional years. Marc attended
Medical School at the University of Louisville and he graduated in 2001. He finished his Anesthesiology residency in 2005 and he has been working as a staff anesthesiologist for the past 14 years. He currently
lives in Louisville and works at Baptist Hospital. Marc is married to his wife, Beth, and they have three daughters, Payton (18), Reagan (13) and
Caroline (11). Marc enjoys fishing, shooting and woodworking.

Luke Maile

Luke graduated from CCH in 2009. He played baseball and basketball for all four years. In his basketball senior season, he became a member of the 1,000-point club (1036), was an NKBBCA Division 1 All-Star and was named CCH Most Valuable Player. In baseball, for three consecutive years (’07, ’08, ’09), Luke was named team MVP and team captain, was
named NKY Player of the Year and was named 1st
team All-State. In 2009, his senior season, Luke won several awards, including Kentucky Mr. Baseball, Gatorade Kentucky Player of the Year, Louisville Slugger Kentucky High School Player of the Year and was named to the Max Preps All-American team. Luke set and still holds several single season and career school records including an incredible career batting average of .494. He was drafted in the 43rd round of the MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox. He accepted a scholarship to play baseball at the University of Kentucky instead. Luke was awarded
Academic All-SEC twice (‘11 & ’12), and in 2012 was named All-American Honorable Mention, All-SEC 2nd Team, a semi-finalist for the USA Golden Spikes Award and Dick Houser Trophy, and was drafted in the 8th round
by the Tampa Bay Rays. In the minor leagues, Luke was an All-Star and made his MLB debut on September 1, 2015 vs. the Baltimore Orioles. Luke played for the Tampa Bay Rays from 2015-2016, Toronto Blue Jays
2017-2019 and recently signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2020 season. Luke is married to his wife, Paige, and their daughter, Evelyn, is 1 year old. They currently reside in Palm Harbor, Florida.

Jack Kennevan

Jack served as Principal at CCH from 1996-2003. Under his leadership, CCH built a new academic building, which Jack believed was vital to the future success of the school. Through the building process, Jack helped reunite the entire CCH community.
With a new academic building came a revitalized
academic curriculum. Jack was a role model for both
students and teachers who improved every aspect of CCH life, spiritually,
academically, physically, and socially. Jack earned a BA in
English/Education in 1957 and a MA in Theology in 1969 at St. Mary’s College in California, as well as a MEd in Administration from the
University of Cincinnati in 1971. Jack and his wife, Jean, married on December 30, 1970, and they will celebrate their 50th anniversary this
year. They have two children, Sean and Shannon, and four grandchildren, John, Grace, Luke & Caroline. After leaving CCH, Jack continued
working in schools as a coach and an administrator. He continues to serve others to this day as he has served as a volunteer chaplain at the Hamilton County Justice Center since 2006. Jack still enjoys watching sports and considering his past days as an athlete and coach, he feels that his greatest sports moments and achievements were his sideline and
courtside coaching at CCH games. CCH was very successful athletically
during his tenure as principal, winning two state championships (Football
’97, Baseball ’02) and nine state runner-up finishes (Cross Country ’97, Soccer ’98, Golf ’02, Swimming ’96, ’97, ’99, ’00, ’01, ’02)

Steve Hanson

Steve graduated from CCH in 2003. He ran track and played soccer for all four years. In track, he was a four-year varsity member and the team won regional championships all four years. Steve was the track team MVP in 2001, 2002, and 2003. He was an 11-time regional champion and a state qualifier in a remarkable seven different events. He was a seven-time member of KY All-State team in five different events (100M, 200M, 4X400, 4X100, 4X800). Steve was the captain of the 2003 AAA State Runner-Up team. He finished 2^nd in the 200M Dash at the state finals, and he was also part of the school-record setting 4x200 M Relay team in 2002. Steve also played soccer for four years and was a member of the varsity 2001 regional championship team. In addition to being a team captain during his senior year, he won the team Defensive Player of the Year Award. After graduating from CCH, Steve attended Bellarmine University as a member of the track team. He transferred to the University of Louisville in his junior year and graduated in 2009 with a BA in History. Steve has worked for Enterprise Rent-a-Car for ten years, where he is now an Airport Service Center Supervisor. He and his wife, Brittany, have been married four years and live near Louisville, KY. They have two cats and they enjoy traveling, kayaking, hiking, paddle boarding and camping together. Steve still enjoys sports and physical fitness, participating in races, mini-marathons and recreational leagues. He is the proud Uncle of his niece, Charlotte, and nephew, Everett, and his family and friends continue to be a source of inspiration to him every day.

Dave McGee

Dave graduated from CCH in 1990. He played football and ran track all four years at CCH. In football, Dave played both offense and defense and was a member of the 1987 and 1988 state champion teams. In his senior year, he was a team captain and won numerous awards including all-region on both offense and defense, MVP in the Buddy LaRosa Classic at Riverfront Stadium, and was selected to the prestigious Top 22 Coaches’ All-Star Team. Dave was also an outstanding track athlete. He finished 3^rd and 2^nd respectively in the state meet in 1989 and 1990 in the 800 M Run, an event he still holds the school record in with a time of 1:57.76. In addition to being named team MVP in 1990, he was also named Track Athlete of the Year in Northern Kentucky. After graduating from CCH, Dave attended Centre College and graduated in 1994 with a degree in Physics. He played football and ran track at Centre College, lettered all four years, was all-conference in both sports and was captain of the track and football teams in his senior year.Dave received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Kentucky in 1996. He began working as a control engineer for Vickers Electronics in 1997, which was acquired by Siemens, where he worked until 2009. In 2009, Dave was hired as VP of Manufacturing at Republic Lagun CNC based in Harbor City, CA, where he worked until 2016. In 2016, Dave started his own company, McGee Automation, which rebuilds machines, writes software, and sells new equipment. Dave currently lives in Redondo Beach, California with his 13-year-old son, Nicolas. They travel to different MLB ballparks each year and eventually hope to see all of them together. He enjoys watching Nicolas play sports, skiing, biking, the beach, and spending time with his family and friends.

Eric Severson

Eric graduated from CCH in 2005. He was an outstanding baseball and golf athlete. In baseball, during his senior year of 2005, he served as team captain, was named team MVP, NKBCA Region Player of the Year and All-Region Team, and NKAC Most Outstanding Division 1 player.His CCH career accomplishments include: .512 batting average for a season (4^th all-time), 62 Hits in a season (2^nd all-time), 17 doubles in a season (3^rd all-time), 9 HRs in a season (9^th all-time), 18 HRs for a career (4^th all time.) In Golf, Eric was a member of 2003 and 2004 Varsity Regional Championship teams. After graduating from CCH, Eric attended Georgetown College where he was a four-year starter in baseball. He was named All-Conference twice and currently owns the single season doubles record. Eric graduated in 2009 with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with an Emphasis in Finance. He started working at Fifth Third Bank, where he has worked for the past nine years. He is currently an Assistant Vice President and works as an Associate Relationship Manager for the bank’s Commercial Healthcare Division. He also holds an MBA from Thomas More College. Eric sits on the Eggs and Issues Committee as part of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. In addition to traveling with his wife Christine (a 2005 NDA graduate), Eric enjoys spending time at the lake, playing golf, and taking care of their two dogs Capone and Nani.

John Michels

John graduated from CCH in 1988, where he was a pitcher on the varsity baseball team. His favorite memories as a player include making it to the state semi-finals in his junior year and upsetting NCC to win the regional championship in his senior year. He returned to CCH in 1998 to coach baseball under Bill Krumpelbeck. In over twenty years as a freshman/JV baseball coach, he has over 400 JV wins and five JV championships. Furthermore, he has donated countless hours working on the baseball field and made many financial contributions to the upkeep of the baseball and overall facilities on campus. Some of his favorite memories as a coach include winning the state championship in 2002, as well as winning both the JV titles and varsity regional championship on walk-off plays in 2005. As an assistant varsity coach, the baseball team has won five regional titles, has nine regional finals appearances and has a record of 343-97. John is most proud of the relationships he has made with players after they graduate, as well as the work that has been done on the field. He is also proud of the $100,000 that he has helped the baseball program raise for various autism charities. John currently works for his family business, Michels Construction, and he resides in Ft. Wright with his wife, Emily, and his son, Drew.

Sheila Roedig

Sheila’s support for CCH is second to none. She began volunteering at CCH in the fall of 1987 and stayed through 1994. She then took time off as life was busy with her family, but she returned to CCH in 2000 and she continues to help to this day. Sheila has helped in many capacities, including: bingo, assisting the athletic director, serving as a football parent liaison, working the ticket gate at football games, mom prom, spaghetti dinner, parents club, boosters and other miscellaneous events. She has served under four principals, four athletic directors and over twenty Booster Presidents. Sheila is the daughter of Harold & Jean Hornbeck and is one of six children. She grew up in Covington and attended Holmes High School, where she was in the National Honor Society and a cheerleader. She married Tony Roedig, a 1969 CCH graduate, on July 24, 1982. They raised their family in Florence and recently moved to the Covington Wallace Woods area. Her five children are all CCH and NDA graduates: Nate (’91 CCH), Meghen (’01 NDA), Derek (’04 CCH), Hans (’08 CCH) and McKenzie (’11 NDA). She has seven grandchildren and currently works for Getronics as a Partner Program Specialist.

Chris Davis graduated from CCH in 2002. While at CCH, he was a four-year member of both the Track and Cross Country teams and a senior captain of both teams. Chris was a varsity member of three Track (’00, ’01, ’02) and one Cross Country (’00) regional championship teams. In Cross Country, he was the individual Class AAA regional champion in ‘01, team MVP in ’00 and ’01 and qualified for the state meet three times. In Track, he was a regional champion five times in three different events and was named KY All-State five times in three different events (4x800 Relay, 800 M Run & 4x400 Relay.)

After high school, Chris earned a scholarship to the University of Louisville where he competed in both Cross Country and Track. In ‘04, his Cross Country team finished 3rd place in the conference, their highest finish ever in Conference USA history. Chris transferred to Northern Kentucky University and earned a degree in secondary education in ‘09. He later earned a master’s degree from Georgetown College in Education ‘16. He has worked as a teacher and a head Track and Cross Country coach at Bishop Brossart High School for the past seven years. His Cross Country team won back to back state championships in ‘13 and ‘14. His Track team has won 4 straight indoor state championships, and in ‘15 they won the KY Class A state championship. Chris is a two-time NKY Track coach of the year, and the KTCCCA Class A Track coach of the year in ‘15. He currently lives in Alexandria with his wife Beth, who is a speech and language pathologist, and their son Will. They are expecting their second child this June.

Tom Dusing graduated from CCH in 1967. While at CCH, he participated in numerous activities. One of his favorite memories as a student was watching the Colonel basketball team make it to the 1967 State Championship, in which many of his fellow classmates played. Tom is also a life-long Cincinnati Bengals fan and a long-time season ticket holder.

After graduating from CCH, Tom went into the family business at Dusing Bros. Ice, where he worked with his brothers as part owner until he retired. Tom married his wife, Patti, in 1970 and they had a daughter, Heather, and a son, Matt (CCH ’95). His son Matt was a member of the 1993 and 1994 State Championship Football Teams, and Tom was very active in organizing numerous bus trips those years. Tom has been an active member of the CCH Boosters since the early 1990s. During his time at CCH, Tom and Patti co-chaired multiple booster dances and helped coordinate other Booster events. Tom worked the concession stand at Bingo, football and basketball games, and he also worked the door at basketball games until his health declined in 2017. Dusing Bros. Ice generously donated countless bags of ice and refreshments to support the CCH Boosters. Tom has graciously given of himself and his company for over 25 years to support the school he will always love.

Randy Ellison graduated from CCH in 1979. While at CCH, he was a member of the Track & Field team for 3 years under head coach Jack Kaelin and a member of the football team for one year under head coach Lynn Ray. His most cherished memory at CCH was riding home from school to Latonia every day with Dan Tieman. He credits that fifteen minutes every day as life-changing, for Dan taught him how to be a good Christian, how to be a good student, how to be respectful of others and that he could achieve anything he wanted in life.

Randy has been involved at CCH ever since he graduated. Over the years, Randy has contributed to the school in a number of ways. He has remained an active member of the Booster Association for many years. He helps out whenever and wherever he is needed, including painting and repairing many areas of campus. Randy is very proud that his three sons are also CCH graduates, Drew (’06), Nick (’09) and Matt (’14) and he hopes that his two-year old grandson, Wyatt, will be a member of the Class of 2034. Randy strives to make the Covington Catholic campus one of the finest facilities in the state and he is definitely proud to be a Colonel.

Sam Flynn graduated from CCH in 2007. As a rare 4-year starter at Linebacker for the Colonels, he led the Colonels to the ’06 State Championship as team captain. In ’06, he set school records for tackles in a game (31), tackles in a season (223) and tackles in a career (465). Sam’s accolades in ’06 include 1^st Team KY All-State, the Enquirer NKY Defensive Player of the Year, ICN6 Defensive Player of the Year and was the Enquirer Player of the Week (vs. Beechwood.)

After graduating from CCH, Sam went to Marian College on a football scholarship and he played for one season. He transferred to the University of Kentucky, where he graduated in ‘11 with a graduate degree in Political Science. Sam received the Henry Clay Merit Scholarship to Northern Kentucky University, Salmon P. Chase College of Law, where he graduated in ’14. Now in his career as an attorney, Sam is an Assistant Attorney General in Frankfort, KY and he focuses on civil and environmental litigation. He married his wife, Katy, in June ’16 and they currently live in Lexington, KY. Sam is also a proud Uncle and soon-to-be Godfather of his nephew, Bryce Flynn. Sam and his wife enjoy travelling, and they visited Scotland and England last summer.

Jeff Studer graduated from CCH in 1992. While at CCH, he was a three-year letterman in Basketball and a two-year letterman in Baseball. In Basketball, Jeff amassed 1,255 points, which currently ranks 7^th in CCH history. He currently ranks 2^nd in CCH history in most 3-point goals scored in a career (199) and he still holds the school record for most 3-point goals scored in one game (11). Jeff was voted to the all-region tournament team in ’91 and ‘92, and he was a member of the ‘92 Regional Championship team, which finished with a record of 31-4. In Baseball, Jeff won the team Best Defensive Player Award as a Shortstop in ’92 and helped lead the Colonels to the 9^th Region Championship and an Elite 8 appearance in the State Tournament. Jeff was named the 9^th Region Tournament MVP after going 7 for 10 with 6 RBI’s. In his 2 years of varsity baseball, his team’s combined record was 65 wins and 12 losses.

Jeff is proud that he was born and raised in Covington. After graduating from CCH, he went to NKY Vocational School and he currently works for KW Mechanical as a licensed HVAC technician. Jeff has a son, Zach, who is 16 and a daughter, Mia, who is 14. He re-married in August 2017 to his wonderful wife, Angela, and they currently live in Fort Mitchell. Jeff’s greatest joy is spending time with the people he loves and being the best father he can be.

Dale Dickman (1968)

A 1968 CCH graduate, Dale is an integral part of the behind the scenes operations at CCH home athletic events. In the week leading up to big games, Dale cleans the outside concession stands, and stocks food and drinks. On game days, he arrives 4-5 hours before game time to get the concession stand prepared. After the game, he stays for an hour to clean up and re-stock food and drinks. In addition to these duties, Dale serves as the official scorekeeper for both home and away JV and Varsity basketball games and is also the chairperson for Bingo every Thursday. Bingo is the largest fund raiser for Covington Catholic and through Dale's efforts and the others who have committed so much time and energy to work Bingo, we have been able to build a new school and now a new stadium.

Dale attended the University of Kentucky extension college in Park Hills for two years and then went to the University of Kentucky for a year before returning home to finish his college degree at Northern Kentucky University. He and his wife, Jeanne, reside in Park Hills. They have four children and six grandchildren. For the last 25 years, Dale has worked at Blue Grass Quality Meats in Crescent Springs as the credit manager. Dale enjoys playing golf whenever possible, working outside in the yard and on projects around the house. He especially enjoys spending time with his grandkids and watching them play sports.

Tom Eckerle (1994)

Tom graduated from CCH in 1984. At CCH, he earned three varsity letters in both football and baseball. He also played basketball for two years. Tom was involved in many clubs, including Student Senate, the “C” Club, Knux’s Flying Whowandas, and had the lead in the spring play “The Odd Couple” as a chicken wing eating sports writer because he didn’t even have to act! Tom graduated from Xavier University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. Beginning his career as a teacher at NCC, he coached football and baseball for three years. He became the varsity head baseball coach in 1993 and led his first team to the regional finals. Tom returned to CCH in 1995 where he still teaches biology & anatomy today. Tom served as an assistant football coach for four years under Lynn Ray which was highlighted by the 1997 State Championship season, including the legendary “Mud Bowl” victory over Highlands. Tom is now entering his 23^rd season as assistant varsity baseball coach to Bill Krumpelbeck. He helped the Colonels win a state championship in 2002 with a nation’s best 40-3 record and a top-15 national ranking. Tom has been married to his wife, Tami, a 1983 NDA grad, for 25 years and they live in Ft. Wright with their three children Carlie, Ryan & Gracie. His son, Ryan, is a senior at CCH and he too plays baseball.

Kirt Dooling (1998)

Kirt graduated from CCH in 1998. He was an outstanding football and track & field athlete. As a guard in football, he helped lead the Colonels win the 1997 State Championship. He was named two-time all NKY and two-time All-State. He was a three-year varsity starter and a two-time team captain. Kirt won the National Football Foundation Award, as well as the Guard of the Game MVP Award. In track & field, Kirt was a three-time state qualifier in the shot put, two-time regional champion, finishing 4^th and 3^rd place respectively in the state during his junior and senior seasons. Kirt was a team captain his senior year and won the Most Valuable Field Man Award in 1997 & 1998. While on a football scholarship at the University of Cincinnati, Kirt was a five-year starter and letter winner. He was named freshman All-American, senior year All-Conference and was a two-year team captain. Kirt won numerous awards, including College Oh Boy, Legion of Excellence Award, Strothman Award, John Pease Outstanding Lineman Award and was a two-time NCFF and HOF Award winner. Kirt has been working in the orthopedic medical field for the past twelve years. He and his wife, Tessa, reside in Norwood, Ohio. They have a son, Tiegan, and are expecting their second child in June.

Jamie Conway (1988)

Jamie graduated from CCH in 1988. He was an exceptional football and track & field athlete with his main attribute being speed. In football, Jamie was a wide receiver on the 1987 state championship team. In track & field, he won numerous awards, including Colonel Dedication and Most Valuable Runner his senior year. As a senior, he qualified for the state meet in four events and set the school record in the 400 M Dash with a time of 49.64 seconds, a record that remains unbroken today. Jamie graduated from Wilmington (Ohio) College with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, where he competed in both football and track & field. He earned a Master of Science degree in Information Assurance from Capital Technology University. Since 1997, Jamie has been an information security professional. Since 2013, he has performed assessments for CBTS clients regarding their information security program, information security architecture, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing. He also served as the information security subject matter expert for St. Xavier (Chicago) University's Web Security graduate course from 2006 to 2014. In 1997, Jamie was diagnosed with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia which affects his ability to walk. On January 5, 2017, he received an intrathecal baclofen pump in hopes of reducing the effects of the disease. He feels blessed to still be alive after dealing with end-stage renal disease in 1998 and receiving a kidney transplant in 1999. His first wife, Laura Baxla, passed away in 2012 due to a brain tumor. They were married for 21 years and they had one daughter, Kyra. Today, Jamie has been married for ten months to his wife Amy. Their union has resulted in a blended family consisting of three boys (Johnny, Brandon, and Nathan) and three girls (Kyra, Bella, and Grace) who range in age from 3 to 24.

Sean Ryan (2002)

Sean graduated from CCH in 2002. As a 4-year football and baseball player, he was a tremendous leader. Primarily a catcher in baseball, as a senior, he helped lead the Colonels to the school’s only state championship during his senior year in 2002, with a nation’s best record of 40-3. He was named MVP of the State Tournament and he won the CCH Kevin McKinley MVP Award. He had a career batting average of .420 and still holds the school record of most hits (64) and doubles (19) in a season. In football, as a running back, Sean was named NKAC Division 1 All-Conference and NKY Coaches Association All-Star his senior year. He received the Rick Fedders Award for his dedication to academics and athletics. Sean also played baseball at Eastern Kentucky University, where he graduated with a BA in Criminal Justice in 2006. He earned his Master of Arts degree in Criminology at the University of South Florida (Tampa) in 2008. Sean met his wife, Claire, in 2006 while he was in graduate school at USF and they married in August 2013. Sean is commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army Infantry in May 2008. After completing initial Infantry and Ranger training, his first assignment was as a Platoon Leader in 2/508th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division. Sean’s subsequent assignments have been with the 75th Ranger Regiment and 2nd Stryker Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division. He has been deployed three times in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (2009, 2011, 2013). Sean is currently living in the Washington, D.C. area working in a research development program testing radios for tactical communications. Sean’s hobbies include working out, hiking, mountain climbing, off-roading in his jeep, reading, sky-diving, traveling, and spending time with his wife.

2016 Inductees

Mike Guidugli

For the last 28 years, Mr. Guidugli has been the Athletic Director at Covington Catholic among many other roles such as Assistant Principal, English Teacher, Dean of Discipline, Work-Study Coordinator, Coach and Facilities Director. Under his leadership, Covington Catholic has become one of the premier athletic programs in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. In his first year as AD, the Colonels won their first football state title defeating the Paducah Tilghman Blue Tornados 16-6. Since then, the football program has added five state championships (1988, 93, 94, 97, 98 and 2006). In addition, Cross Country (1994), Baseball (2002), Track (2009), and Basketball (2014) have all added state championships. In addition, the Colonels have been state runner-up 21 times and won countless regional championships during his tenure over various sports. Furthermore, Mr. Guidugli has played an instrumental role in the improvement of the overall athletic facilities. While Mr. Guidugli has stepped away from his role as Athletic Director, he remains on as Dean of Students/Asstistant Principal and Manager of Buildings and Grounds at CCH. He and his wife Karen reside in Villa Hills and are members of St. Joseph Parish. Their daughter, Tracy, also a member of the CovCath faculty, and her husband Carl have two children, Ryan and Evan. With the extra time Mike now has, he enjoys attending any and all activities that involve his grandchildren.

Tim Duncan (2005)

Track- Tim was a 4-year varsity letterman in Track & Field, specializing in the events of hurdles, sprints and long jump. In 2005, Tim was named KY Track & Field Male Athlete of the Year, a two-time State Champion for 110M and 300M Hurdles, a state record holder in 300M Hurdles and his time ranked 25^th nationally. Tim was a member of 2003 AAA State Runner-Up and became a school record holder in four events at time of graduation (two currently stand). KY All-State nine times in six different events. In his four years at CCH, Tim never lost a race to any NKY opponent and was named team MVP as both a junior and a senior. After graduation, Tim attended the University of Louisville on a track scholarship where he completed his degree in Art. In addition, Tim studied in Greece and spent four months in Europe learning more about art, food and spirits. Tim now lives in Denver, CO and works in the culinary industry. He enjoys spending time with his girlfriend Cara and his hobbies are hiking, camping, skiing, snowshoeing, kayaking, cooking, spirits, sculpting, painting, traveling the Western U.S. and his two dogs. Tim remains very close to his family in Northern Kentucky and is the proud uncle of a niece and nephew in Miami, FL.

Dana Granger (1989)

Football & Baseball – Dana was a three-year letterman in both football and baseball. In football, he was a two-year varsity starter at linebacker on the back-to-back state champion teams in 1987 and 1988. As a senior he was named 1^stTeam All-Star on a number of teams including the Enquirer, the Post, the NKAC, and the Football Coaches Association. He was also the recipient of the CCH Best Linebacker Award and the Keith Stowers Award in his senior year. In baseball, Dana was a two-year starter and a very solid performer both as a hitter and fielder. He finished his career with a .390 batting average and 115 hits to rank in the top fifteen in the 100 Hits Club. Dana was named to the all-region team in both his junior and senior seasons. After graduating from CCH, Dana attended Centre College for two years, playing both football and baseball. He transferred to the University of Kentucky and completed his Bachelors in Biology. From there, he began working at Hoxworth and received his Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy from the University of Cincinnati. During this time he married his wife Melissa. They now reside in Louisville with their three children Jackson, Bella and Anna. Dana is now the outpatient PT Director at Norton Audubon Hospital and in his free time enjoys golf, horse racing and perfecting the world’s greatest chocolate chip cookie for his children.

Dustin Hicks (1994)

Dustin Hicks (1994)-Football/Baseball/Basketball- In football, Dustin played quarterback and was a leader for the 1993 State Champions. In baseball, he was an exceptional catcher and was all-state both his junior and senior seasons. Dustin had 104 hits during his career and was a member of the 1992 and 1994 regional championships. At the freshman level, Dustin won regional titles in Football, Basketball and Baseball. After graduating from CCH, Dustin attended Thomas More College, where he played one year of baseball and four years of football. Dustin started three years for TMC, where he holds six passing records at quarterback. He will also be inducted into the Thomas More Athletic Hall of Fame next month. After TMC, Dustin played one year professionally in the south of France for the Aix-en-province Argonauts. Dustin married his beautiful wife Abby (Newhouse) in 2008, and they welcomed their daughter Harper Elizabeth in 2011. Dustin is employed by Schneider Electric as an IT Business Analyst.

Bob Noll (1983)Coach/Contributor.

Bob spent many years as one of Coach Lynn Ray’s assistants, coaching the offensive line from 1986 to 1997, and was also offensive coordinator from 1990 to 1997. During this time, the Colonels won five state championships (87, 88, 93, 94 and 97). Bob taught Religion and Business. His other roles included Student Senate Moderator, Religion Department Chair, Assistant Athletic Director, JV Baseball coach and he holds undefeated records as Swimming and Tennis Coach. Bob went on to become Assistant Principal at Bishop Brossart for one year and was Principal at Newport Central Catholic for twelve years. He was Assistant Principal at Beechwood High School for the last three years and is currently Assistant Principal at Tichenor Middle School. Bob’s family includes his wife Jane, daughters Katelyn and Krista, parents Bob, Jr. and Phyllis, and sisters Debbie Pastura, Connie Noll and Sharon Noll.

Adam McCormack (1993)

In football, Adam was a 3 year varsity letterman on teams that compiled an overall combined record of 32-8. Adam was selected to numerous all-star teams including first team All-State by the Associated Press, and first team All-State by the Courier-Journal as a senior. In addition to all the other all-star teams he was the recipient of the Marty Kehoe Player of the Year Award, and named to the prestigious Top 22 Team. At the time of graduation Adam owned the following records: Career records for Pass Attempts (673), Passes Completed (367), Passing Yards (5458), and touchdowns passing (53); Season records for touchdowns passing (25), Total yards (2650); and Game records for touchdowns (6).

Adam was also a three year letterman in baseball. He is currently tied for 10^th in career strikeouts, and pitched a no-hitter against Highlands in the Regional Championship game in his junior year.

Greg Deye (1998)

Greg Deye was one of the few freshmen in Covington Catholic soccer history to be “called up” in his freshman year to participate on the varsity team.It was during his junior and senior years, however, that his star began to shine at Covington Catholic.Greg Deye led the team in goals in those years with 17 in 1996 and 14 in 1997.He also led the team in assists in his senior season with seven.Numbers can only tell a part of Greg’s value to this team.His leadership when things were not going well often resurrected the team from a poor performance.Under Greg’s leadership the soccer Colonels captured the Regional Championship in 1997 (which was the first time CovCath had won since 1992) and then he scored the lone goal in a 1-0 victory on a muddy field over the George Rogers Clark High School which placed the Colonels in the final four of the KHSAA State Tournament.

Dan Barczak (1999)

Cross Country & Track – Dan was a member of the 1997 cross country team that Coach Kaelin calls his best ever.His strongest feats were in track where he ran the 400, 800 and 1600 meter races. He qualified for a total of 7 events in the state and was a regional individual champion six times. As a senior, Dan finished the 800 meter at state with a school record time of 1:56 finishing second in that race. He was a two time recipient of the Colonel Dedication Award. Dan still holds school records in the 800, the 4x800, the 4x400, and the sprint medley. He earned a scholarship for running to the University of Louisville.

Mike Listerman

During Mike’s 11 years as head coach, his teams won six district titles, and two regional championships.His 2004 squad advanced to the Final Four in the state tournament.His 230 victories place him second in career wins behind the legendary Dan Tieman.Mike was the recipient of several coaching honors, including the Region 3 NHSACA Coach of the Year Award in 2008 and was one of eight finalists for the NHSAC National High School Coach of the Year that same year.In 2005 he was an assistant coach in the Ohio/Kentucky All-Star Game.In 2007 he was an assistant coach of the McDonald’s All-American East Team.In 2009 Mike was an assistant coach of the Kentucky All-Starts and in 2010 served as head coach of the Kentucky All-Stars.

Steve Sorrell (1975)

Steve has been coaching for over 25 years at his alma mater including time as varsity golf coach and as longtime basketball coach, mainly on the freshman level. In 1984, Steve was the coach of the state championship golf team, the last CCH golf team to accomplish this feat. In basketball he has led the freshman team to many Regional Titles, and served as an assistant on 3 Regional Championship teams, as well as being part of the 2014 State Championship. Steve has also been involved for many years with the very successful operation of the Grade School League at Covington Catholic.

As a memorial to his daughter, Steve and his wife, Terri, have established the Kelsey Sorrell Memorial Scholarship that each year benefits a graduating senior.

The 2014 Inductees

Rob Harmon (2002)

Rob was a three-year letterman in baseball who compiled a career pitching record of 23-3 including a perfect 13-0 mark in his senior year as ace on the State Championship team that went 40-3. In addition to the record setting wins in a single season, he also holds single season records for most strikeouts (144), most innings (80), as well as career records for most wins (23) and most innings (175). Rob’s performance on the mound earned him numerous awards including several All-Star Teams, All-Region and All-State as both a junior and senior. As a senior, he was Tournament MVP at both Regionals and Sectionals.

Kevin Listerman (1995)

Kevin was a three-year varsity starter in basketball where he made his impact immediately with his defensive tenacity. During those three years, the Colonel Basketball team had a remarkable 79-18 record. Individually, Kevin set school records for most steals in a season (124) as a junior, and school career records for most steals (291) and most assists (242). Kevin was named to numerous all-star teams and was the recipient of the prestigious Dave Cowens Hustle Award in the 9th Region in both his junior and senior seasons. Kevin was also a major contributor to the baseball team that won back-to-back Regional titles in ’94 and ’95.

Brian Marshall (1998)

Brian was an exceptional runner in both cross country and track earning four varsity letters in each and was a part of seven Regional titles. As a freshman, Brian was one of the leading runners on the cross country team that won the state championship in 1994, and as a senior, led the cross country team to a State Runner-up finish. He won numerous awards including All-State accolades in multiple years and was named Runner of the Year by the Enquirer in cross country. In track, he was a major contributor in distance events on teams that won four consecutive Regional titles.

Andy Zerhusen (1995)

Andy was a two-year starter on the football team where his teams went 25-5 over the two year period and won two State titles. As a senior, he won several awards including 1st Team All-Conference, 1st Team on the Coaches Association All-Star Team and 1st Team on both the KY Post and the Enquirer All-Star teams. Andy also had a very successful track career that culminated in his winning the shot put in the State Meet as a senior. For his efforts he was selected 1st All-State and was the recipient of the CCH Most Valuable Field Man award.

2013 Inductees

Tim Grogan (2002)

Tim Grogan, Class of 2002, was a two-year starter for football at quarterback and led the team to the state semi-finals his senior year. He set numerous records and was named Northern Kentucky Player of the Year by The Enquirer. Grogan also was a rare four-year starter in baseball. He was a member of the state championship baseball team in 2002 and was named Player of the Year by The Enquirer his junior year.

Jarod Kees (1998)

Jarod Kees, Class of 1998, was a three-year starter in baseball and football. He batted .455 as a senior scoring forty-two runs on the way to the regional title. He received many all-star recognitions and was named team MVP. He earned a baseball scholarship to Santa Fe Junior College in Gainesville, Florida. In football, Kees was a captain his senior year and a member of the 1997 state championship team.

Ben Schreiber (1997)

Ben Schreiber, Class of 1997, was a four-time state tennis singles qualifier and four-time Northern Kentucky regional singles champion. No other NKY player has achieved this honor. From 1994-1997, he was Cincinnati Post/Enquirer Player of the Year, NKAC Division I Most Outstanding Player, and CCH MVP. Schreiber led CCH to NKAC championships four years and to regional championships in 1994 and 1997.

Dennis Walsh (Booster/Contributer)

Dennis Walsh has been involved at CCH since 1992 when he began as announcer for the soccer teams. He handles concessions for soccer, as well as basketball and football. For varsity football games, he arrives four hours before games to set up and stays well after cleaning up. Walsh is a member of the Boosters and has helped with bingo since 1994. He also assists with every athletic banquet at the school.

Tim VanSant (1974)

Tim was a four year varsity letterman in swimming. During his sophomore year he won an individual state championship in the 100 yard breast stroke and was on a winning relay team as well. As a senior he won the 100 yard back stroke in the State Meet while leading the team to a State Title. In addition to swimming, Tim was a three year varsity letterman in tennis. He earned a swimming scholarship to Morehead State University.

Dave Legeay (1988)

Dave was a three year varsity letterman in football on teams that combined for a 30-6 record. As a two way starter in his senior year, he caught 33 passes and scored 7 touchdowns from his tight end position, and was a major force on defense as well. More importantly the 1987 team compiled a 14-1 record and won the first CCH Football State Championship. Dave was selected to many All-Star teams, most notably first team All-State by the Courier-Journal and second team All-State by the Associated Press. David also earned two varsity letters in basketball.

Tom Beechem (1999)

Tom was an outstanding player in both baseball and football. A three year varsity letterman in football, Tom was a starting safety on the 1997 State Championship Team setting a school record for most interceptions in a season (9). As a senior he was named to numerous All-Star teams including the Northern Ky. Top 24 which led to his selection as the recipient of the prestigious “That’s My Boy” award. In baseball, Tom was a two year starter in center field where he led the team to a Regional Championship in his junior year and was named MVP of the tournament. In his senior year he was became the first Colonel to hit over .500 for a season. His career offensive statistics place him in the top 10 in five categories: Batting Average: .432; Runs Scored: 108 ; Doubles: 25: Stolen Bases: 44; and Bases on Balls: 59.

Kurt Kreyling (1999)

Kurt was a four year varsity letterman as a goalkeeper on the soccer team from 1995-98. In his junior and senior seasons CCH won back to back Regional Titles, and finished as State Runner-up in 1998. During his senior year he received numerous accolades, including All-Region and All-State. In addition to soccer Kurt was an outstanding performer for the track team setting school records at the time in both the triple jump and high jump. As a senior he won the individual State Championship in the High Jump and was 4^th in the Triple Jump. For his efforts he was selected to both the All-Region and All-State Teams.

Pat Anneken (1985)-Coach and Contributor

Pat ran cross country in his junior and senior years at CCH and was a member of the 1984 State Runner-up Team. In 1989 he returned to Covington Catholic to assist Coach Jack Kaelin. For the next 13 seasons he served in that role and in 2001 he became the head coach, holding that position through the 2010 season. During those 22 years the CCH cross country teams won seven Regional Titles, a State Title, and were State Runner-Up twice. With all the successes of the teams and the trophies won the true measure of Coach Anneken’s is the impact he has had on hundreds of young men who have had the good fortune to have had Pat as a coach. His passion for CCH and for running was evident every day. Each and every athlete was encouraged not only to be the best possible runner, but more importantly to be the best possible Colonel.

To all my Fellow Cohorts:

Last night at the Garden of Park Hills, one of our own was inducted into the Covington Catholic Hall of Fame – Al Hertsenberg. When you stand back and look at the list of names of those already inducted, the list is awesome, and certainly Al and the four alumni does not “cheapen” that list, in fact it makes it even more outstanding. Welcome Mr. Hertsenberg to the CCH Hall of Fame. I always thought Al was a greater orator and speaker until last night. To hear Brad Wilder, Bill Hentz, David Gronotte and Tony Cento speak, it was a great job by all . They gave high praises of their education, the teachers/coaches and experiences at this school. Today, each of them are very successful family men, fathers, and business leaders. An old-timer like me, even gets re-energized, when I hear these testimonials. Thanks to all of faculty for making CCH the great place that they all praised about last night.

Back to Mr. Hertsenberg. Congratulations Mr. Hertsenberg. He was on his best behavior with his Mom & Dad both there. They are pleasant people. Nothing like Al. A super nice evening.

Bill Hentz (1980)

• Bill was an outstanding quarterback who completed 255 passes for 3049 yards and 28 touchdowns during his career. His yards passing and touchdown totals were records until broken in 1992.

David Gronotte (1993)

• David was a three sport letterman (baseball, basketball, soccer) who played on several championship teams, including back to back soccer teams that advanced to the final four and compiled a combined 42-5-1 record. As a senior he led the team in goals with 18 and was second in assists with 11.

Tony Cento (1995)

• Tony led the baseball team to consecutive Regional Titles in 1994-95. His combined pitching record during his junior and senior seasons was 16-5 on teams that went 24-12 and 28-10 respectively. During those two seasons he struck out 146 batters in 135 innings pitched.

Brad Wilder (1997)

• Brad was a three year varsity letterman in baseball who received the Outstanding Pitcher Award in both his junior and senior years. In Golf he won back to back MVP honors as a junior and senior leading the team to Regional Titles in both years while finishing 10th in the State Tournament in his senior year.

Al Hertsenberg (Coach/Contributor)

• Coach Hertsenberg joined the soccer staff in 1991 serving four years on the freshman level, twelve at the JV level, and three as the varsity head coach. In tennis he took over the program in the spring of 1991 and since then his teams have won 10 Regional Titles, and 15 Conference Titles. In 2010 he led the team to a State Runner-up finish. During his 19 years as a coach he has been named Tennis Coach of the Year on numerous occasions.
