ABOUT GARREN COLVIN

2018 Honoree Garren Colvin has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of St. Elizabeth Healthcare since June 2015. In January 2011, Mr. Colvin was named Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. Prior to 2011, Mr. Colvin served in the role of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer. He has more than 30 years of experience in the industry.

Under his leadership and direction, St. Elizabeth Healthcare has shown a consistent financial increase and improvement each year. In 2009, this improvement reached new heights as Standard & Poor’s and Fitch upgraded St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s bond ratings to AA- (up from A+).

Mr. Colvin was instrumental in the merger of the former St. Luke Hospitals and St. Elizabeth Medical Center, as well as the consolidation and addition of key physicians groups to St. Elizabeth Healthcare’s mission.

Most recently, Mr. Colvin has been active in the transition of the Kentucky offices of OHC – Cancer and Blood Disorder Specialists – in Crestview Hills and Ft. Thomas in becoming part of the St. Elizabeth network. This is significant for oncology patients and the future of oncology care as St. Elizabeth will be establishing a roadmap for Northern Kentucky’s first-ever comprehensive cancer center.

In August 2016, Mr. Colvin was awarded Cincinnati Business Courier’s C-Suite Award, and was also named a Hero Against Heroin by Transitions Inc. and received a humanitarian award for his commitment and fight against the heroin epidemic.

Mr. Colvin is a founding member of the Kentucky Health Collaborative and a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives. He serves on numerous professional and non-profit boards in the Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati area.

Mr. Colvin earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Business Administration from Thomas More College in 1986 and a Master of Business Administration from Northern Kentucky University in 1996.

Garren and Susan Colvin met while students at Thomas More College. They have been married for 26 years and are the proud parents of daughters Kylie and Hannah. Kylie is a senior at the University of Kentucky and will be entering medical school in August. Hannah is attending Wright State University where she is studying psychology and neuroscience and playing Division I volleyball.

The Northern Kentuckian of the Year luncheon benefits Covington Catholic High School’s financial assistance program. In 2017-18, 103 students were awarded $450,000 in financial aid. Covington Catholic and its alumni positively impact the Northern Kentucky community, and the luncheon provides a vehicle for the business community to support Covington Catholic’s tradition of excellence in education. Last year, the Northern Kentuckian of the Year Luncheon surpassed $1 million raised for tuition assistance since its inception. This support has helped hundreds of students experience an education rooted in strong Catholic values and academic excellence. For these students, the opportunity to attend Covington Catholic can be life changing and provides a solid foundation for a successful future.

Covington Catholic received the National Blue Ribbon Award , presented by the U.S. Department of Education, in 2016. It was only 1 of 2 high schools in Kentucky to receive the award, and is the ONLY high school in Kentucky to have received it TWICE in the past decade (previously awarded in 2007).
