Wrestling

Wrestling is the oldest sport in the world. Wrestling is a winter sport running from mid-October through the middle of February. Mandatory practices will start In October and will run from 3:15pm-5:30pm every weekday. All students that follow the guidelines and make the commitment to the team, will be part of this team as there are no “cuts". Big, small, average size….it doesn’t matter in wrestling…you wrestle athletes your own size. There are 14 weight classes ranging from 106 up to 285lbs. A typical week will consist of a mid-week match with one or two other teams going head-to-head at each weight class. Most weekends are individual tournaments.

Coach Horton is a highly accomplished wrestler with a distinguished career at both the high school and collegiate levels. He wrestled at Ryle High School, where he was a four‑time state qualifier and a three‑time state placer, finishing 5th, 4th, and 2nd in the Kentucky State Championships. He concluded his high school career with 192 career wins, establishing himself as one of the program’s most successful competitors.

He continued his wrestling career at Thomas More University, where he was a four‑time national qualifier. At the national level, he earned three NAIA All‑America honors and one NWCA All‑America honor, highlighted by a 5th‑place finish at the NAIA National Championships. His collegiate career was marked by consistency, resilience, and performance against top national competition.

Coach Horton is a graduate of Thomas More University, where he earned a degree in Accounting. He currently works as an Accountant at Nucor Steel Gallatin, applying a strong analytical background and disciplined work ethic developed through both academics and athletics.

As a former collegiate wrestler, Coach Horton brings the values of dedication, accountability, and perseverance into his professional career. His background in competitive athletics complements his work in accounting, where attention to detail, consistency, and performance under pressure are essential.
